Junior Electrical Designer

The Junior Electrical Designer reports to the Electrical Department Head at the Rally Office based in Sherwood Park, Edmonton.

Keys for Success:
  • Oil & gas experience within an established EPC / EPCM company with refinery, pipelines & facilities experience.
  • Working understanding of engineering deliverables and project delivery process.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written skills (tactful, diplomatic, and professional) for effective communication with all organizational levels; organized and dedicated team player with a Client service mindset.
  • Excellent time management skills with attention to detail in all areas of work; demonstrated ability to manage conflicting priorities to ensure project deliverables and timelines are met.
  • Strong knowledge of 2D CAD software and working knowledge of 3D modeling software and laser scanning and point cloud files.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel).
  • Exposed to technical standards, regulations and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of codes and regulatory obligations to proactively ensure requirements are incorporated into the design.

Responsibilities
  • Report to Department Head for project work assignments / administrative requirements.
  • Report to Discipline Lead & Project Manager for project specific directives.
  • Comply with established project, department, Company, Client, and regulatory codes and standards; and provide engineering design services through the utilization of technical knowledge and tools.
  • Perform tasks assigned by Discipline Lead; translate Client specifications and project requirements into 3D models, drawings, sketches, lists of materials and other types of design drawings.
  • Discuss interpretations of project requirements Discipline Lead (Designer and / or Engineer).
  • Name and file documents per Client and Company standards and procedures.
  • Supervise CAD Drafters; ensure appropriate procedures and specifications are correctly applied.
  • Incorporate results of preliminary and multi-discipline reviews into design; ensure designs are accurate, functional, safe, and complete prior to submission for checking. Identify information shortfalls or incomplete designs (e.g. missing certified vendor drawings) to Discipline Lead (Designer and / or Engineer) for resolution.
  • Check other Designers’ work and review designs created by other disciplines; ensure designs meet Company drafting standards, Client standards, and other applicable codes and specifications.
  • Identify potential Change Notices or project variances (e.g. scope, budget, schedule) to Discipline Lead (Designer and / or Engineer).
  • Engage in personal and continuing program of learning in order to broaden engineering knowledge to improve individual effectiveness and avoid technical obsolescence.
  • Assignments of limited scope and complexity; primarily engaged in equipment engineering design / drafting (discipline specific) – work is supervised in detail.

Qualifications - Education, Skills and Experience:
  • 0-4 years’ experience
  • Technical Diploma or Certificate from a recognized technology program; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Registration with applicable provincial governing body.
  • AutoCAD and / or MicroStation drafting software.
  • 3D design / drafting software (e.g. AutoPlant, Plant 3D, OpenPlant, etc.).
